The American Lung
Association is the nation’s oldest non-profit health agency, and our mission is
to prevent lung disease and to promote lung health. Our mission is critically important today, since lung
disease ranks as the third leading cause of death in the U.S.
For more than 100 years, the
American Lung Association of Kentucky has enjoyed a well-earned reputation as
public health pioneers and leaders. We are the only nonprofit charitable health
organization dedicated solely to lung health issues. Our agency’s service area
includes all of Kentucky, and our programs and services reach people of all
ages.
Proceeds from the gala benefit the American Lung Association in support of the fight against lung disease. Contributions help fund medical research, patient services and educational programs, including our special camps for children with asthma.
Asthma is a serious
public health threat for millions of Americans, and the American Lung
Association has targeted asthma education and control as a priority focus of our
mission to fight lung disease.
The ALA of Kentucky annually
sponsors a variety of medically-staffed camps throughout the state for children
who have asthma.
We offer professional
medical education programs to assist healthcare providers in staying up-to-date
with current diagnosis and treatment guidelines. We provide educational and
school-based interventions to improve asthma awareness in schools. And, we are
actively working to find better ways to diagnose, treat, prevent – and
ultimately cure – asthma through our support of cutting edge asthma
research.
